Rediscovery of Alocasia decumbens , a rare endemic species in northern Vietnam, and its conservation status

Van Du Nguyen

ABSTRACT

Here we present an emended description of Alocasia decumbens, adding details of habit and habitat, and consider its conservation status. Differences between A. decumbens and A. odora are highlighted since the latter was compared with A. decumbens by Buchet (1939), and is abundant in northern Vietnam. We also note morphological traits that suggest an affiliation of A. decumbens with the A. princeps Complex (Hay, 1998).
