Artificial
hybrids between species of Lagenandra
(Araceae)
Jan D. Bastmeijer & Niels Jacobsen
ABSTRACT
The Lagenandra of southern India and Sri Lanka are
generally well known in cultivation with 16 species presently recognized. The
identification of the different species has to some degree been
straightforward, but in some cases, it has proven somewhat difficult
seemingly due to intraspecific variation. We performed experiments showing that
artificial hybrids are easily obtained. Our results suggest that some of this
ambiguity may be to hybridization.
